Old School Uller

It only took 3 days. We finally got on top of the President’s Day storm out on Uller. The snow we got, about 12-14 inches, was cold, dense and formidable. A lot of grooming equipment broke while trying to pack it down and track it. The Gator is headed to the shop for a new steering rack. We ended up having to use the equipment and drags we used in the mid ‘80’s.

Uller, from the T at the East end of the western loops on down to Scribner’s Meadow, all of the Krank Spur and on to Harold’s Pass, Smith’s Ck, and into Pence is old school (and beautiful)

Narrow (although the old 6’ wide base is hard under the new snow), with no track lifting. This is how we skied from 1973-2013.

So dust off your old ‘Pokies, are your Madsus Birkebiners pine tarred? Still got the old Normark bindings and those nasty Woolrich knickers? It’s a true cane pole weekend coming up.

Some of our groomers got a chance to use some different (old) equipment. Others got a chance to see the trail and get to know it a little better under deep winter conditions. It’s huge to get that experience under a few more belts.

Although is looks a lot like mid February right now, we all know our winter time is limited. There will come a day in the near future where all our good work will start heading down the creeks.

Get out while you can, and remember: Ski Freely! Z
