On track 2023

There are tracks on Montreal.  Everything but Verner’s and Pavlovich are tracked and, frankly not all that bad; pretty good for 9” of snow on the ground.

Just don’t plan on shooting the bottom of Calucchi’s, Stanley’s and Deep Rock in a full tuck (although I don’t blame you for wanting too, me too); the sun, rocks and wind have coordinated to keep the snow-pack there almost too thin to groom.  Just look ahead and be careful; there are more than a few rocks and re-frozen water at the bottom of all those hill trails.

No real snow to report this week.  We got some sparkles last night; but that’s all for this week.

No sweat, we’re working over what we’ve got.  There’s been a bit more of shoveling than we’ve done for a few years; but we’re into it.

I can report that it sure looks nice in the woods this week.  Take your time and look around, go slow and keep an eye out for rocks while you enjoy the wonderful winter-scape.

You ski free, eh?  Z

*Edit* 12/09/22

This morning’s journal was written last night so my phone calendar would quit dinging.

As it turns out up here quiet often, the weather decides otherwise.  It started snowing around 7AM today.  We ended up with about 3” (~8cm) of new, fluffy snow.  Believe me, it sure was nice to see; but when it gets packed, there’s only about a quarter of an inch added to the trails.  That doesn’t mean we can’t pull some new stuff into low spots and ice patches, which we’ll do.  This little storm from the plain states has helped a lot.

To put things all together, there are 12” (30.5cm) of snow on the ground in the woods.  Montreal trails have a nominal 4” (10cm) of base.  The south exposed trails (bottoms of Calucchi’s, Stanley’s and Deep Rock are still pretty thin.  Be careful.

We packed Pavlovitch today.  There will be a shovel party out there soon.  Verner’s will also take some shoveling coming up.

All Ranger eyes now turn to Uller.  It’s time.

Let’s get ready to Ski Freely.  Z
