Spreading it around

The old trail Chief is off on family times welcoming a new grandbaby into the world. The snow is right for setting up a base. It feels a little weird; but it’s all as it should be.

The Iron County Forest Administrator went out today and rolled 2/3’s of Uller. He’s responsible for more than a million dollars of stumpage, hundreds of miles of motorized winter trails and a committee of elected officials not to mention the County Board. But he got out with the County machine started working on Uller. I feel him; sometimes the office is just the place to get out of and hear the drone of the machine and feel the snow in the Range.

Karl got out in the Ranger’s machine after spending the whole day working wood and perfecting a finish on a roof rack. He rolled most of Montreal. Alone, in the dark. Awesome.

This is as it should be; 49 years of trail grooming now and there are other people who have the interest, the equipment, the skills and, quite frankly the guts to go out there and make things nice for the rest of us.

It’s close. Give us a little more time and a little more snow and we’ll be enjoying Olympic class tracks in northern Iron County thanks to these guys.

Get ready to ski freely, eh? Z
